ZSBG (United Schools of Construction and Geodesy) is one of the oldest schools in Łódź. It has already celebrated its bicentennial and has always been renowned for good quality of teaching, which enables the students to acquire attractive professions in future after their graduation.
The story of its name is somewhat complicated. It underwent numerous changes throughout the years. So did the location of the school itself.
In 1945 the State Grammar School of Civil Engineering was founded. Be-cause of lack of its own site, classes were often held at different, scattered here and there locations. The first permanent address of the school was 60 Sien-kiewicza Street, Łódź. In course of the years to follow the site of the school was moved to at least 5 different places (including the main street of Łódź - Piotrkowska) receiving different, subsequent names.
Thus, in 1950 it received the name of State Technical School of Geodesy, only to change 8 years later simply into Technical School of Geodesy. The latter name survived the longest - almost 24 years. During this period, around 1962, it received its latest to date location at 15 Skrzydlata St.
Since 1968 a new speciality has been introduced - Road and bridges con-struction. This obviously caused a consecutive change in the School's name, which has now become Technical School of Road - building and Geodesy.
Because specialities still expanded, another subsequent name of the school was needed. Thus, since 1981 the official name of the school has become United Schools of Construction and Geodesy.
In 1984 a new direction of education was introduced to our offer 5 year-cycle Technical School - Land betterment, and since 1995 ZSBG (United Schools of Construction and Geodesy) has been enlarged still by another sepa-rate component - Technical Secondary School with a specialization (profile) of Environmental Formation.
In the 90s, the School began its preliminary work connected with the intro-duction of the newly reformed system of Polish education. It participated in the international IMPROVE programme, within which new educational pro-grammes of a "modular" - character have been introduced. The school has be-come a component of general programme of ecological education.
Our school has got modern, well-equipped laboratories (including two computerised) as well as the School Constructional Centre, composed of 4 laboratories and fifth one, currently under construction, which is going to become a constructional and building polygon for the students.
The laboratories enable the students to study, in attractive form, the structure of building materials, basic rules of constructional designing, building procedures and new technologies. The planned constructional polygon will aim to help the students acquire practical knowledge about typical constructional works (brickwork, plastering, bracing, etc...).
We have succeeded in numerous inter-school Olympics and contents.
At present, our United Schools are composed of the following educational institutions:
- Technical School of Road building and Geodesy (with a 4 year educa-tional cycle)
The students graduate with a title of:
- geodesist technician
- constructional technician (speciality: roads and highway bridges construction, new technologies, pavement resurfacing and mod-ernization of constructional works, building construction with re-gard to protection of the environment)
- Profiled Secondary School - with the specialization of environment formation and information management (a 3 year educational cycle).
- Post - Comprehensive School Vocational Study (a 2 year educational cycle)
The students graduate with a title of
- geodesist technician or
- constructional technician (with the specialization of roads and highway bridges construction)
Within our possibilities, we try to organize different extra-curricular activities for the students e.g. sporting events, hobby and interest - circles (historical, theatrical, sharp-shooting, information and computer technology, etc...) as well as language camps and numerous integrational events, trips and meetings. Our students do enjoy attending our school and feel "at home" on the classes.
