Sitges Terramar

Spain / Barcelona / Sitges /
place with historical importance, abandoned / shut down

The Sitges Terramar is a former racing circuit located between Sant Pere de Ribes and Sitges. The track opened in 1923, hosting the Grand Prix of Spain that year. It was a steeply-banked (up to 60 degrees) oval circuit with a slight kink in the backstretch, making it quite unique. Sitges Terramar also made good use of the natural landscape, with much of the turns cut into the earth, forming a quarry of sorts.

Minor races were sporadically held on the circuit through the 1950s. The track was abandoned, and it is presently the site of a chicken farm. The track and some of its facilities remain largely intact even after 80 years of disuse, primarily due to the widespread use of concrete in its initial construction.
