Syed Hasan Badruddin Gilani (Baghdadi) well known as Baba Shah Badr Dewan is a descendant of Ghaus-ul-Azam Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani.
He was born in Baghdad in 861 Hijra. He left Baghdad in 904 Hijra and came to Lahore where he stayed for several years. Finally he moved to village Masanian (3 miles east of Batala) where he was burried after passing away in 978 Hijra. (Some have reported his passing away in 1018 A.H. or 1609 A.D.)
He was married to Murassa Bibi(Bukhari Syed family of Sohal Sharif) and had one daughter Fatima (who died very young) and four sons Ali Shah Sabir, Abdul Latif, Mohammed Sadiq and Habibullah (he had only one daughter who was married to son of Ali Shah Sabir).
A large number of people in Punjab was his Mureeds and got spiritual guidance from him. His tomb is situated about 3 miles east of Batala in a village name Massanian, India. Before partition a large number of people visited his mazar on every Thursday on a new moon. His ‘URS’ is celebrated on 12th of Rabi ulAwwal.
His descendants, GILANI Sayyads, lived in Masanian Village until 1947. After partition of India, all his descendants migrated to Pakistan and majority of them settled in Punjab.
After partition, Sikhs and Christian residents of Masanian are maintaining the shrine with love and respect.
Tomb of his daughter is also located in Masanian - north of his dargah.
He has a Chillah in Lahore behind the campus of University of Engg. & Tech..
