Bantpolder

The Bantpolder is situated in the Municipality of Dantumadeel in the province of Friesland. The area can be overviewed from the parallelway and the dyke north of the N361, Anjum-Lauwersoog. The Bantpolder, like the whole Wadden Sea area, is important for migration goozes like the Tadorna tadorna or Branta leucopis, Dutch: brandgans, that breed in Northern Europe and Russia. In November some 15,000 of them have been counted only in the Bantpolder.
Breedingbirds are: rotgans (Branta bernicla), scholekster(Haematopus ostralegus), kievit or kieviet(Vanellus vanellus), grutto(Limosa limosa), kluut(Recurvirostra avosetta), visdiefje(Sterna hirundo).
