The Bantpolder is situated in the Municipality of Dantumadeel in the province of Friesland. The area can be overviewed from the parallelway and the dyke north of the N361, Anjum-Lauwersoog. The Bantpolder, like the whole Wadden Sea area, is important for migration goozes like the Tadorna tadorna or Branta leucopis, Dutch: brandgans, that breed in Northern Europe and Russia. In November some 15,000 of them have been counted only in the Bantpolder.
Breedingbirds are: rotgans (Branta bernicla), scholekster(Haematopus ostralegus), kievit or kieviet(Vanellus vanellus), grutto(Limosa limosa), kluut(Recurvirostra avosetta), visdiefje(Sterna hirundo).
