The 8 February Vinalon Factory was built in the early 1960s by a Korean People's Army (KPA) labor group. Vinalon is a synthetic fiber that was researched and developed by the DPRK. It is named after the date of the foundation of the Korean Chondoist Young Friends' Party in 1946. This a complex of chemical factories that produce synthetic fibers, including vinalon, and livestock feed. General Kim Jong il visited the complex on the pretext of field guidance in May 2008. The 8 February Vinalon Factory is under the jurisdiction of the Fifth General Machine Bureau of the Second Economic Committee of the Korean Workers' Party (KWP).
