This used to be the American end of the first transatlantic telegraph link with France and Europe. After its closure in the 1950s, citizens of Orleans bought the house and its contents and turned it into a magnificent museum of telegraphy. The original telegraphic instruments from around 1880 to 1940 testify of an age of ingenuity and enterpreneurship. Some of the machines can still be operated by the volunteer guides!
