While Jack in the Box is native to California, remarkably, this store was built as a Whataburger restaurant in the 1970s, a chain based out of Texas. Whataburger hasn't had a presence in California since the late 1980s, and presumably after Whataburger closed in 1987, Jack in the Box took over.
