San Galgano Abbey

Italy / Toscana / Monticiano / Strada Comunale di San Galgano
 ruins, monastery, interesting place

S. Galgano Abbey, built between 1220 and 1268 and dedicated to legendary Tuscanian saint Galgano Guidotti, is a wonderful example of gothic art in Tuscany. Once a very rich abbey, since the XV century it started a slow decadence, and while the walls are still in place, the roof felt in 1768. However, it is still a beautiful piece of art; it is visited by many tourists and houses musical happenings.
