  • The word Za'faran normally refers to a kind of hurb, which can be used in coocking or in home made sweets. Thus, propably the name "Za'faraniya" comes from that, who knows? This area was a very calm and peaceful naighbouhood. Has many academic institutes in it, in addition to an army aire-base.
  • I lived in this area since 1970, the name of (Zafaraniya) came from the fact that the area during 40's and 50's was a farms of the herb of(Za'faran), that what my late father(SGM Issa Salih Al Qardaghee)told me when he was the command SGM in Al Rasheed Air Base.
  • It was a beautiful city. Where many mosques and a church and a home for monks and the people were from the upper classes and intellectuals, people living in peace. But after 2003 people abandoned the good and the advent of shruqih (الشروكية)of people .... They destroyed the city and the mosques that were in the church and monastery of nuns .... Damn you shruqih
