Camp Ariel Sharon (Hebrew: מחנה אריאל שרון‎), also called the City of Training Bases/IrHaBahadim (Hebrew: עיר הבה"דים‎) and informally known as the Base of Bases, is a complex of military bases in southern Israel, belonging to the Israel Defense Forces and named after the former Major General Ariel Sharon. Upon completion it will be the largest military base in the country. The base is located near Yeruham and next to the Negev Junction of roads 40 and 224.


A military training compound under development at Negev Junction, designed to contain eight Basic Training (Va"dim) residential military schools and accommodations for thousands of soldiers, in the new future complex located 20km south of Beersheba, in the Negev.

The Planning Division of the Israel Defense Forces prepared a multi-year plan in 2002, called an IDF base project , which aimed to transfer eight Basic Training (Va"dim) schools into an area next to the Negev Junction from their current bases largely in Central Israel. The project is part of transfer of the IDF bases to the Negev , whose goals are to restore expensive areas in the center of the country for the Israel Lands Administration , to establish a basis for the technologies and infrastructure, advanced, create organizational change various units, but first and foremost lead to the development of the Negev through thousands of jobs creating program.

The program includes, among other things, the transfer of the following bases to the new desert facility :
• Bahad 6 (School of Logistics)
• Bahad 7 (School ICT)
• Bahad 10 (School of Medicine)
• Bahad 11 (School III)
• Bahad 13 (Military Police School)
• Bahad 15 (Intelligence School)
• Bahad 20 (School of Ordnance)
• Education Training Base
• School Liaison Officer
• Tironoiot soldiers and combat support back-end ( Camp 80 and Batar buds)

The program will include the dismantling and re-development for civilian uses of the following existing IDF bases :

The Project will also contain 5,000 housing units for permanent families. The site will include a technical college, sports facilities, commercial area, a motel for visitors, schools and more. The Project received a significant boost with the decision of the state rail network to connect city trains , serving the thousands of soldiers and permanent personnel who will work in the area. Current assessment (2012) is that within one year of becoming operational it will accommodate 90,000 soldiers.

Area of the final base will be 1600 acres (250 thousand square meters). 1 December 2003 saw the laying down of the cornerstone of the project, responsibility of the logistics planning section in the logistics division, medical and centers . April 2007 approved by the Israeli government project. Work on the project began in January 2012, and is expected to take two to three years. If schedules are met, the city will begin operation at the end of 2014 or early 2015
