Khormaksar - Khor (Creek) Makser (Broken), as the creek was divided or broken the area derived its name Khormaksar. Its also because of a place in Khormaksar that had a bridge where sea water passes from beneath to supply salt fields. The bridge was demolish more than once by the battles that took place between the men of the last Sultan Mohsen Fadl and the British in 1840, and was rebuilt once again because it was the only way to Aden. There are a number of ancient archaeological and and historical sources indicate that the Yemenis were interested in the extraction of salt and the establishment of many of the facilities associated with the industry.
