Matagalpa, Nicaragua is the transportation (bus) center of the North East. A cosmopolitan feel with many small stores and several good restaurants. Lower and drier than the coffee growing area of Jinotega, Matagalpa is home of many 'beneficios' that collect, dry, shell, grade and bag coffee for the many cooperatives further up in the hills. Drying season runs January through march when hundreds of acres of coffee can be seen drying in the sun. See www.matagalpa.info
