Atwater is a city in sections 1, 2, 11, and 12 of Gennessee Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. The population was 1,133 at the 2010 census.
The town was founded in 1869, and incorporated in 1876. A post office began in 1869 as Gennissee Station, changing in 1870 first to Stockholm and then to Atwater. The area was also known as Summit Lake. Located on the Great Northern Railway, Atwater was a grain storage and milling center.
