Mascarell is a small walled town which belongs to the town of Nules. It is the only completely walled city of the Valencian country. It is a town with a source linked to the expulsion of the Muslim population of the neighbouring town of Borriana, the first paper of the village is of 1310, when Jaume II, expelled the moors of Borriana, and they settled in Nules-Borriana border.
