park, forest

Scene of a First World War battle that took place at the end of March and the beginning of April.
The success of the Canadian, British and French forces in the bitter, back and forth fighting that took place here helped to forestall the Germans 1918 Spring Offensive, which in turn ultimately led to the conclusion of the war seven months later.
Noteworthy amongst the fighting is what some call "the Last Great Cavalry Charge" in which the Canadian Lord Strathcona's Horse cavalry regiment charged German defensive lines and scattered the attackers.
