Government High School Akbarpura, District Sangrur.
This is the oldest school in this region since British times. Mohmammed Siddique (punjabi singer) studied here. This school is up to class ten only and I wish it gets upgraded to twelth class since it caters to the needs of many surrounding villages like Akbarpura Chhanna, Rohira, Phallewal, Borhai, Momanabaad, Kup Khurd,Jandali Kalan.
The funny thing is that village Akbarpura did not even had Primary school when the Middle (now High) school was granted to this village. There was a gentleman from village Akbarpura of the name of Harchand Singh Sandhu who happened to be a professor of Math at Govt College Malerkotla. The Nawab of Malerkotla held him in high esteem because Mr Singh was the first Sikh postgraduate in Math. Nawab Sahib first authorised Mr Harchand Singh Sandhu with a primary school for his village, however the village folks of Akbarpura did not accept the school. Mr Kundan Singh of Nathumajra was far-sighted enough. He convinced Harchand Singh to grant the school to village Nathumajra which was done. Later the Nawab secured the services of Harchand Singh Sandhu again to set up a middle school. Harchand Singh himself owned a little piece of land at the present place of School. He alongwith a few others donated his land for this worthy cause. The Panchayats of village Phallewal and Rohira did their best to get the school named after their villages. However Harchand Singh Sandhu wanted to keep it in his village. Even though the school is very close to village Pallewal and Rohira, it is in the land of Akabrpura. This is the only example in the state where a village had Middle school but no primary school. For primary education the kids had to go to Phallewal or Nathumajra. Later Primary school was granted to village Akbarpura also.
