11.300 inhabitants, including the surrounding villages. It is situated on an ancient merchant route alongside the river Nidda across the mountains of the Vogelsberg region. It was first mentioned in 778. The founding of the city is bound to the medieval period of 8th century deforestation. Since well known 1925 motorcycle race with up to a 100.000 visitors.
