Bottle House

USA / Nevada / Beatty /
house, interesting place, movie / film / TV location

One of three bottle houses constructed in Rhyolite. Tom Kelly's, built in 1906, is the last one standing. Kelly used over 30,000 bottles to create this home in five and a half months. The Bottle House managed to survive the ravages of time and vandals due to a group of dedicated caretakers watching over the house and giving tours from 1925 until the Bureau of Land Management took over in 1990.

The Bottle House was used as a filming location in Paramount's 1925 silent film "The Air Mail," starring Warner Baxter, Billie Dove, and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.
