History:
Apaleng was named in loving memory of the benevolent couple, pure native Ilocanos named APIONG and his wife ALING. They lived as hunters in this place and they planted camote, ube, toque, rice, corn and ginger in the vast fields. When they died, their bodies were burned in only one place underneath a tree. The people named this tree “APALENG”. Since then, the trees grew abundantly in the area and the people then associated the place with Apaleng tree. This specie of tree when dried, is often used as posts or floorings in the construction of houses in the making of furniture.
