Elizabetes iela 61 is the Riga Cinema (Fridrihs Skujiņš 1923). It was opened on December 31, 1923. Originally known as the Splendid Palace, it is notable for the rich and luxurious stylized rococo atchitectural style. The interior is decorated by sculptural mouldings by Rihards Maurs and Jēkabs Legzdiņš, as well as paintings by Hermanis Grīnbergs. It was the first cinema in the Baltic states to show sound films and is the home to many film festivals.
A similar cinema building in Tallinn 'Crystal-Palace' was destroyed during the II World War.
