This clump of trees hides the remains of a Norman earthwork motte and bailey fortress and is thought to have been founded by the Lord of Ewyas at the time. The bailey is distinctive with its crescent shape and counterscarp bank but the motte has been damaged through the course of time.

  • The circular part of the polygon in the left is the 'motte' and the crescent- shaped larger section to the right is the 'bailey'.
