Once referred to as Lower Macedon lock, Lock #60 was constructed in 1841 with a lift of 10 ft. to replace the original 1822 Clinton Ditch Lock. A second, lengthened lock was built beside it in 1888, and was in use up until 1914 when both were bypassed and drained by the construction of the present-day New York State Barge Canal.
