    Yet you knew that with the imminent danger of war against Japan in the late 1930s and up to the point of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the country would need help from Americans. In a sense we really didn't get our independence from the US 'til 1946, two years after you died of tuberculosis in Saranac Lake New York. We might have been liberated from the wretched Japanese, but we were still part of the US months after the Second World War ended.
