Locally this roundabout is know as the "suicide island" previously famed as a accident black spot.
The roundabout was completely redesigned and construction started in 2013, finishing in 2016. The A45 Stonebridge Highway now goes under the roundabout turning into the A46 Coventry Eastern Bypass. This has relieved a large amount of traffic on the roundabout itself.
The roundabout is now circular as a new bridge (slightly to the east of the original route) spans the A45 carriageway.
