Border Drive-In Theatre (abandoned)

Canada / Quebec / Les Coteaux /
abandoned / shut down, historical layer / disappeared object, drive-in theater

A long since disused drive-in facility located in Bainsville, Ontario just inside the boundry between Ontario and Quebec (because they used to be illegal in Quebec). Largely overgrown, the only remnant is a dilapidated movie screen. The name "Border Drive-In Theatre" used to adorn the back of the screen, easily seen from the 401.

It ceased operation in 1980.

  • I had a cottage in Riviére Beaudette and I used to go here as a kid all the time. Saturdays they had all-night movies until the sun came up. Good memories
  • actually the dusk to dawn shows were on sundays comprised of 5 pictures usually horror or suspense films.
  • That is right. It has been quite a while and I was pretty young at the time!
  • Hi I used to work at the drive in with Eva the owners wife William jr. Was small then after me and my dad built the stock car race track Leon ( tibi) Prieur to bad that was the nicest trac in extern ontario and western Quebec Yvonne Duhamel race there on a motercycleand Ovide Doiron and Lucien lalonde and jean guy Lajenesse and all the valleyfield guys plus the Plattsburgh late models
  • I had been there about 10 years ago, the projection booth was still mostly standing, with the projectors on their sides. There are some great photos of this location of UER.ca. The ticket booth (in the trees) and the sign, indicating what was playing, also remained, however sometime in the early to mid-2010s the property was sold and these structures all taken down. Nothing remains as of 2019.
