An area landmark, the Ford Plant started operations on April 20, 1925, building Model T cars.
During World War II the plant converted to wartime needs and built landing craft for the Navy.
In recent years the plant was used to manufacture F-150 pickup trucks. Ford kept this plant open despite the higher cost to manufacture here because it consistently exceeded production quotas.
As a cost-cutting measure, Ford finally closed the plant on June 28, 2007.
