Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST) is a higher education university featuring engineering subjects and of distinct characteristics constructed with the joint effort of both Jiangsu Province and the Ministry of Education, is one of the key universities of Jiangsu Province and empowered to grant doctor’s degree. JUST sticks to serve shipping industry and national defense industry, and gradually developed into a multidisciplinary comprehensive university.
　　Jiangsu University of Science and Technology is located in Zhenjiang City, the famous historical and cultural city enjoying beautiful landscape at the south bank of Changjiang Rive, dates back to year 1933 when it was known as Shanghai Dagong Private Vocational School, originally established at the bank of Huangpu River. JUST was successively renamed several times in history, namely Shanghai Mechatronics Industrial School, Shanghai Shipbuilding Industrial School, Zhenjiang Shipbuilding Technical School (moved to Zhenjiang in 1970), in 1978 the school upgraded to be Zhenjiang Shipbuilding College and renamed Eastern China Shipbuilding Institute in 1993. With the merging of Jiangsu Jianghai Trade School in 1999 and Silkworm Industry Institute of CAAS in 2000, it’s then given the current name of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology in 2004. In December 2006, JUST passed undergraduate education evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education with excellent scores.
　　Currently, JUST has four campus areas, including eastern, southern, western and Zhangjiagang campus areas, wherein southern campus area is an independent college – Nanxu College, and Beijing Research Institute, Shanghai Research Institute, Zhejiang Research Institute and Shanghai Office. It covers total area over 2500 Mu, total fixed assets valued at 860 million Yuan, in which 179 million Yuan is for teaching & research instruments and equipment. It has 1.39 million books and over 500,000 kinds of electronic books in library storage.
