Jelgava was the surface launch base of the 307th. Regiment of the 29th. Missile Division.
The 307th. deployed two surface launch pad complexes and one silo complex (Lambarte)
The Jelgava bases base was deployed with R-12 (SS-4) Missiles.
The 29th. RVSN Division was headquartered in Siuliai, Lithuania. It was also deployed at Paplaka, Plunge (Plokstine), Dobele and Priekule.
The 29th. Division was part of the 50th Missile Army.
Jelgava was also a “Missile Elimination Site”, one of the sites designated to eliminates missile according to the reductions signed into the 1987 INF Treaty.
