road, tunnel, interesting place

Built in 1821 as a means of shortening the route of the main road from London to Brighton. Reputably built by the Prince Regent to ensure that trips to see his Mistress in Brighton didn't take him more than 50 miles from London! Also reputed to be Europes earliest road tunnel. The route is now closed to motor traffic. Caves are accessible from the Tunnel, and they are open 4 days a year. See www.wcms.org.uk for details.
