After the liquidation of the Duchy of Courland and Zemgale in 1795, Ozolmuiza (Eckhofen) manor became the property of Emperor Paul I of the Russian Empire, who presented it to the Governor of Courland, Karl Wilhelm Drizen, who renamed it Paulsgnade ('Paul's Grace').
