Jawoldo

Korea (South) / Chungchongnam / Taesan /

Jawoldo is a beautiful island about an hour's ferry ride from Incheon harbor. It's quiet and rural with an unhurried pace. The air and water are clean and the people are very friendly. Stay at a minbak (inn) and you'll have access to free bicycles. The majority of the southshore road is flat and easy for the novice biker. At the east end of the road, you can turn left and go over the hill (I walked my bike up the steepest bits) and you'll come to the less visited north side of the island. There are several coves and the beaches are top notch. Jawoldo is truly a rare gem. One word of advice: Supplies, especially any sort of western-style food items are in short supply if they're available at all so pack in your own hot dogs and such. Good camping is available on the beach across from the main village (when you step off the boat, turn left down the shoreline road and walk about one kilometer).
