This 3,630 foot tunnel a.k.a. Factoryville Tunnel, completed in 1915, was an important component of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad's Clarks Summit-Hallstead Cut Off. There are two 135 foot airshafts in the tunnel to vent locomotive exhaust. The rock removed during the excavation, was used in the contruction of Tunkhannock Viaduct located two rail miles from this site. It is located at D.L.&W. milepost 149.
