About 200 inhabitants from the village of Sanzhi moved in the 1970s to the village of Druzhba which has a mixed population of about 49 % Dargins, 22 % Tabasarans, 20 % Aguls 4 % Lezgins and others like Kumyks. Sanzhi children learn Standard Dargwa about two hours per week. Standard Dargwa is however quite different from Sanzhi Dargwa. According to Diana Forker, author of A grammar of Sanzhi Dargwa (2020) Sanzhi Dargwa is heavily endangered.
