Spire House (London)

United Kingdom / England / London / Lancaster Gate
 apartment building  Add category

Formerly Christ Church, Lancaster Gate, now apartment building. The Church was one of the most well known in London, but when dry rot was discovered in the roof the decision was taken to demolish most of the site and redevelop it.
Today all that remains architecturally of the original church are the tower and spire.

  • This site is now a block of apartments. During the 1980s the Anglican church was demolished to build a block of apartments, the steeple of the church was kept as its entrance hall. The exterior columns of the block of apartments simulate the flying buttresses of the former church.
  • I was given a tour throughout by a night watchman when it was just finished back in the early eighties. Spectacular, expensive and truly tasteless (in my eyes) arab decoration in most of the apartments. Was fun to see for a poor student.
