Mota is an island in Vanuatu, part of the Banks Islands. The island has a population of about 683. Because this was the first island in Melanesia to be Christianised, its language was used for Christian instruction from Isabela (Solomon Islands) to Pentecost (Vanuatu), giving it an influence far beyond its size.
