La Ventosa is known for the strong winds that blow in the region,giving the area its name. The winds that blow in from the Gulf of Tehuantepec are particularly strong along highways 185, 190 and 200 that connect La Ventosa with Juchitan and quite capable of blowing over trailer trucks. This an excellent area for the development of wind energy and a number windmills are already generating electric power.
