Château de Bertangles and Gate (Bertangles)

France / Picardie / Bertangles
 castle, interesting place

For nearly 900 years only three famlies, all directly related have lived on this land.
This Magnificent Castel was built between 1730 and 1734 by Louis-Joseph de Clermont-Tonnerre. All the buildings and the garden are a model of harmony and balance. The sculptures witch decorate the facades are dedicated to the theme: peace.
At the entrance to the main cortyard is a wrought iron gate with hunting themes. It comes from the castel at Heilly where it was baught in 1840 by the Marquis de Clermont-Tonnerre. It is the work of Jean Babtise Veyren, known as "Le Vivarals",an iron worker at Corbie in the XVIIIth centuary and who also made gates in the choir at Amiens Cathedral as well as those at Volloires Abby and St Pierre abby church at Corbie. The castle and its out buildings were classified as Historic Monument by decree on 26 September 1970.
