City National Plaza, was constructed as the ARCO Plaza between 1970 and 1972, to serve as the world headquarters for ARCO. Prior to that this location was occupied by the Art Deco Richfield Tower, aka Richfield Oil Company Building, which was constructed between 1928 and 1929 as the headquarters of the Richfield Oil. The 12-story building was 372 feet tall, including a 130-foot tower atop the building.
