The Museum of Paleo Environments Sulcis (PAS) hosted in the facilities of the Great Mine Serbariu (ex local workshops), was opened to the public in 2009. The museum is the evolution of PAS paleontology museum and Speleology "EA Martel" already It housed in a historic building in the city of Carbonia, in Via Campania in front of the new entrance to the archaeological museum "Villa Sulcis" and the eponymous park.
The museum was born from Carbonia (1972) of research and collection of speleologiche Research Group "Martel", it promotes and disseminates the geological history of Sulcis-Iglesiente which is the strip of land oldest in Italy. PAS central theme of the exhibition is the story of the succession of geological and biological events that occurred in the Sardinian southwest dall'Era Palaeozoic to Quaternary.
The central hall of the museum, the ground floor houses a section dedicated to the great mass extinctions, particularly of the dinosaurs, with an individual reproduced full-size (of the Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton). On the upper floor there is an exhibition of fossils which introduces the theme of biodiversity with exhibits sorted by family, from various locations on the planet.
