Set on the southeast end of a high ridge of the Chilterns, Penn is extensively wooded and criss-crossed by lanes and footpaths.

It is alleged twelve counties can be seen on a clear day from the church tower (village is 169m above sea level). Penn was made famous by its tile-making history.
