Mannargudi, a Taluk Headquarters in Tanjore District, is a place of religious antiquity and legendary importance. In ancient times, Mannargudi was known by many names namely, Senbagaranyam, Vasudevapuri, Dakshina Dwaraka.This town is known as ‘Koil mattrum Madil Nagaram’.It is also known as Raja Mannargudi.70 Tanks are in this town.

Mannargudi can be reached by road from Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and Pattukkottai which are situated around 40 km from the place. The nearest railway station is 12 km away at Needamangalam.


The most famous landmark in Mannargudi is the thousand year old Hindu Temple Sri Rajagopala Swami Temple.This was built by Raja Cholas at 1000 A.D. A festival called Panguni Tiruvizha is celebrated every year during the Tamil month of Panguni (March/April) in the Sri Rajagopala Swami Temple.

There is a Siva Temple North of Pamani river and is called Thirupaadaleeswaram. It is also known as Pamani Kovil. Arulmigu Amruthanayagi Sametha Arulmigu Naganatha Swami is the presiding deity. Known to be a swuyambu.
Vaduvur Lake which is a small Bird Sanctuary is 12 kms away from this town.

  • Hai. I raghavan from church agraharam. I was studied in Findlay Higher Sec. School in the year 1984. My class teach was Thiru. Swaminathan. He is the Maths genius. I am Hockey player in the school. My class mates are also visited Mannargudi in shortly. Those who are studied X (English Medium) in the year 1984 was joined in the celebrations.
