The Bakker Company was established by Piet Bakker in 1945, immediately after the Second World War. As the war ended, the hard winter of 1944/45 reduced many Dutch families to near-starvation and it was only through the generosity of friends or family overseas, who sent gift parcels of food, that many were able to survive
