El Consorci de les Drassanes Reials i Museu Marítim de Barcelona es crea l’any 1993. Es tracta d’un ens públic de caràcter local format per l’Ajuntament de Barcelona, que és el propietari de l’edifici, per la Diputació de Barcelona, que és la titular del Museu, i per l’Autoritat Portuària de Barcelona.

Té per objecte la conservació i la rehabilitació del conjunt patrimonial immoble on s’allotgen les Drassanes Reials, així com la prestació dels serveis vinculats al Museu. El precedent històric d’aquest Consorci es troba en la ‘Concòrdia’ que l’any 1378 van signar el rei Pere IV, el Consell de Cent i la Diputació del General. Aquell acord pretenia portar a terme d’una manera eficaç la construcció de les Drassanes Reials. Va ser el seu esperit de col•laboració entre institucions el que va permetre aixecar aquesta joia del gòtic civil català.

The consortium of the Royal Shipyards and Maritime Museum was created in 1993. This is a public entity formed by the local City Council, which owns the building, the Barcelona Provincial Council, who is the owner of the Museum and the Port Authority.

Its purpose is the conservation and rehabilitation of the heritage building which housed the Royal Shipyards and the provision of services related to the Museum. The historical precedent of the Consortium is in the 'Concordia', which in 1378 signed the King Pedro IV, the Council of One Hundred and County General. That agreement intended to carry out effectively the construction of the Royal Shipyards. It was his spirit of collaboration between institutions which allowed up this jewel of Catalan civil gothic.
