Golden Lake ("Lago Dourado" in Portuguese) is an artificial lake created in the mid-90's to provide water to the city in dry times. It was meant to also serve as a bathing and leisure place, but that project was never carried on, especially after it began being considered an important reservoir.

Its name is due to the fact that the Sun gives the lake a golden color during the sunset.
