The castle of Villeneuve-Loubet has a pentagonal keep dating from the 13th century and fortifications from the 16th. Its moment of fame came in 1538, when King François I of France stayed here for the signing of the Truce of Nice with Holy Roman Emperor Charles V to end the third war between the two rulers. Since 1742 the castle has been in the hands of the Panisse-Passis family.
