Castle of the sixteenth century that comprised, along with Castle of Santa Cruz and the Castle of San Diego, a strategic network of castles and batteries for the defense of the city of A Coruña. It was declared a National Heritage Site in 1949 and in 1994 went on to be regarded as a Cultural category of the monument. Since its inauguration in 1968 houses the Archaeological Museum and the historic Coruña.
