Mount Pelée (French: Montagne Pelée, "Bald Mountain") is an active volcanic mountain composed of layers of lava and ash. The volcano is most famous for its eruption in 1902 and the destruction that resulted, the worst volcanic disaster of the 20th Century. The eruption caused about 26,000 to 36,000 casualties and destroyed Saint-Pierre, at that time the largest city in Martinique. Other eruptions, relatively minor, occurred in 1792, 1851, and 1929.

  • Mount Pelée is a very good mountain in Martinique. I wonder if the famous footballer Pelé ever wanted to visit this mountain.
