Donated the city in October 24 1807 for the governor Pablo Jose Da Silva Gama, the place initially called Potreiro da Várzea or Várzea do Portão Field, later passing to call Bom Fim Field, had the proximity of the Church of Nosso Senhor do Bom Fim (1867) andof the parties that were become fullfilled there. In September 9 1884, the Chamber considered the denomination Redemption Field in homage to the release of the slaves of the third district of the Capital.

The first gardening occurred in 1901, when already the Military School (1872) and the School of Engineering existed in the area of the park (1896).

With the Commemorative Exposition of the Centenarian of the Farroupilha Revolution, in 1935, the park became Farroupilha Park, therefore the transitory event accomplished the total occupation of this space. In day September 19 1935, Redemption Fields received the denomination from Farroupilha Park.

The hiddings place Alpine Garden, European Garden and Eastern Garden had been implanted in 1941. In 1978 the Brique of the Redemption was created and in 1997 effected the falling of the park as site Historic and Cultural of Porto Alegre.

In the park area exist diverse services as Park of diversions, strolls of train and boats, Bom Fim Market (where it has store of conveniences and snacks), Coffee of the Lake, Rank of the Military Brigade and Ecological Fair (to Saturdays per the morning).

Beyond diverse places, as Orquidário, Mini Zôo, Alpine Hidding place, Eastern Hidding place, European, Solar Hidding place, Luminous Source, Water Mirror and Audience Araújo Viana, the park still counts on 38 monuments, prominence for the Monument to the Member of an expedition.

The vegetation presents about 8500 trees, of chal-chal, pitangueira, paineira, tipuana species as, cocão, palm of California, wreath of fiancé, jacarandá, ipê-Purple and cypress.
