Brown University was founded in 1764 as the College of Rhode Island in Warwick, Rhode Island as the 7th institution of higher learning in the United States (and the first to accept people of all religious denominations). It moved to College Hill in Providence in 1774. In 1804 it changed it's name to Brown University in honor of Nicholas Brown who donated $5,000 to the University.

Today, it is a member of the Ivy League and one of the top universities in the nation.
