In the morning of May 25, 1898, Peder Christian Pedersen and Carl Christian Jensen was out cutting peat coke when their peat cutter hit something unusually hard, they continued the dig, but very careful until they came upon a human body. They stopped their work immediately and reported their discovery to the authorities. The following day assistant Zarauw from Oldnordisk Museum in Copenhagen arrived and continued the excavation until the well preserved corpse was dug out.
His final analysis: Male corpse, long hair and full grown beard. The corpse was resting on its back. The ears and eyeballs were intact while the nose and on cheek was damaged from the peat cutter. The corpse was clad in a wool cape that stretched from the shoulders to mid thighs. The cape was woven in the same manner as was done in the Bronze Age. On his feet he wore some kind of skin boots that was tied with leather straps. His legs was bare. He measured 170 cm. high.
Experts believe 'Frederiksdalmanden' lived sometime between year 1045 - 1145.
Unfortunately The National Museum in Copenhagen reports that the corpse has disintegrated, however photos still exists.
